If you are a Java developer, you probably have heard of IntelliJ IDEA, a super-slick IDE developed by Jet Brains. Before Eclipse and NetBeans, IntelliJ IDEA was the first IDE that really made "code" the center piece of the tool -- it encourages developers to work with code directly and refactor their code constantly to improve qualify, where as most other IDEs just force developers to work around their own project structures and "visual" programming diagrams.
The appCode IDE is Jet Brain's latest effort to bring this "code centric" world view to a new platform. This time, it is the iOS development platform. While appCode does not replace XCode, you still need the latter to edit Interface Builder files and build executables, it excels in managing code. For instance, like many other tools Jet Brains produces, code refactoring is a breeze in appCode, allowing developers to experiment with their code and then clean up later, a key technique of Agile software development. Try it out!
